About Charmaine
Charmaine Boyle (b.1976) is a contemporary artist whose work celebrates nature through romantic botanical portraits.
Originally from Zimbabwe, she lived most of her life in South Africa and currently resides in Scotland. The beauty of the different places she has lived nurtures her senses and continually form part of the inspiration she draws from, with her creative journey deeply intertwined with her love for nature.
Romantic botanical realism portraits unfurl across the canvas. Rendered in a style that blends expressive botanical art with the emotive depth of romantic realism, aiming to capture not only the form, but also the soul of the bloom.
Charmaine’s earlier career as a qualified Marketing Communications Coordinator was spent working for a number of practices across the UK and South Africa. As a self-taught artist, she has been painting since the tender age of ten. In 2022 she decided to take the leap to work as a full-time artist, returning to her original passion.
Working from her studio near the city of Glasgow, Charmaine works with oils, enjoying the richness and versatility this medium has to offer. Her artistic process is a combination of both controlled technique and intuitive fluidity, using a combination of brushes, palette knives, ink rollers and sponges.
Through her continual artistic evolution and fearless experimentation, captivated by the effects of light and shadow on diaphanous subjects, Charmaine employs a sophisticated palette that coalesces neutral soft tones alongside vibrant colour. Immersed in the magic and phenomena of nature, her artworks invite viewers into a deeper contemplation of their own relationship with the natural world - allowing a moment of silent contemplation and reconnection to nature’s timeless beauty.
Her work has been shown in London, Mall Galleries, and in exhibitions across the UK and Scotland. Charmaine was a Finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation 2024 Artist of the Year; won the Talent Prize for an International Juried art competition; had her work featured on the cover of Artmag (Edinburgh, Scotland, Sep ’24); and was featured in Artists Closeup Magazine (issue #24).
