Cherry blossoms symbolize the transient nature of life, as they bloom only for a short period each year. They often represent beauty, renewal, and the ephemeral nature of existence.
The art of transient beauty and the traditional Japanese custom of Hanami (flower viewing) formed my inspiration for this painting. Using oils, I first created the bokeh style background to highlight the delicate cherry blossoms, in an almost 3-D style, forming an essence of alchemy throughout. Working in sections across this large canvas, my aim was to create a sense of gentle fluidity and harmony within the vibrant hues of blue, green and pinks orbs.
