Artists Inspiration & Process:

Being from South Africa - where the Protea is the national flower - I was inspired by an enduring love for these exotic beauties. I wanted to create a sense of life, transformation and resileince, incorporating marks, using large brush strokes, affing subtle textures with a palette knife.

The Protea's ability to thrive and regrow after wildfires, like the mythical phoenix, symbolizes courage, resilience, and the ability to overcome challenges and embrace change. Named after the Greek god Proteus, they symbolize diversity, courage, transformation, and resilience, often representing beauty emerging from adversity and the ability to adapt to change; all of which magnify my ‘Enduring Love’ for these flowers from my home country.
